Isolation and Identification of Polystyrene Degrading Bacteria from Zophobas morio’s Gut

Polystyrene (PS) and expanded polystyrene (EPS) are commodity plastics widely used in many industries. The increase of PS the environment causes ecological threats. It has been observed that beetle larvae feed on plastic packages, this drawn researcher’s attention towards complex system within larvae’s gut where relationships between fungi, bacteria, insect host have established. objective study is to isolate identify PS-degrading microbe from super worms. as a sole carbon source positive bacteria. Five bacterial colonies which showed growth modified PS-agar plate were isolated. All five isolates identified using partial 16 S rRNA gene sequencing. results close relationship Bacillus aryabhattai megaterium strains. An examination via biochemical studies for distinction was implemented further. Based morphological characterization taxonomic method, megaterium. isolates' viability tested 2,3,5-triphenyltetrazolium chloride (TTC), obtained with red-colored insoluble triphenylformazan (TPF) formed 5 7 days. isolation identification these bacteria Zophobas morio’s may provide promising degrading enzyme can be further studied manipulated developing enzymatic biodegradation waste management.
